A composite suspension unit replaces a whole string of porcelain discs with one rod. The fibreglass core takes the tension, the silicone housing sheds water, and the metal end fittings are crimped over the core.
The gain is weight and length: a 110 kV unit is one piece about 1.2 m long, where a porcelain string of the same creepage needs several discs and the hardware between them. That matters on long spans and on tower tops where every kilogram counts.
Ratings run from 6 kV to 330 kV. The shed profile is the same 148/118 mm pair throughout, so the creepage changes with length rather than with diameter.

Values as published in the product catalogue. The 220 kV and 330 kV rows carrying 160 in the designation are printed with a 100 kN rated load; the mechanical rating of those two is confirmed on the drawing before order.
Choosing a Type
Single Unit
A single composite unit covers 6 kV to 330 kV. Replacing a porcelain string removes the inter-disc hardware and most of the weight.
Silicone Housing
The housing is hydrophobic: water beads instead of filming, which is what keeps the creepage effective in fog and salt spray.
Shed Pair
Large and small sheds alternate at 148 mm and 118 mm throughout the range, so creepage scales with length, not diameter.
Every unit is routine-tested before it is packed, and each type is type-tested before it is offered for supply.
